(08:07:05 PM) The topic for #dkap_amber is: Game as Usual
(08:07:49 PM) Cagliostro: ahoyhoy
(08:09:23 PM) dkap: Greetings.

(08:10:03 PM) Auricle [~chatzilla@pool-72-79-212-88.spfdma.east.verizon.net] entered the room.
(08:10:17 PM) dkap: And then there was 3.
(08:10:25 PM) Auricle: *flops over dead from boxes*
(08:10:45 PM) Auricle: Long long day.
(08:10:52 PM) Auricle: First, training after hours.
(08:11:03 PM) dkap: blearg.
(08:11:06 PM) Auricle: Then, dropping off boxes (HEAVY boxes!) at new home.
(08:11:10 PM) dkap: At least, Turkey Day is soon.
(08:11:14 PM) Auricle: THEN, out to Easthampton to get boxes.
(08:11:41 PM) Auricle: THEN THEN, drove through Northampton on a whim to see if their package stores have boxes and hit the motherload at a liquors 44.
(08:11:53 PM) Cagliostro: boo moving, yay new home
(08:11:54 PM) Auricle: My car is stuffed to gills with boxes.
(08:12:02 PM) Cagliostro: mmm. boxed gills.
(08:12:12 PM) Auricle: I should bring them in, but want to game more. :P
(08:12:59 PM) dkap: *grin* A good choice from my point of view.
(08:13:27 PM) dkap: I have the Comedy of Errors on in the background.
(08:13:34 PM) Auricle: GReg can bring them tonight when he's back from the club.
(08:13:40 PM) dkap: So ... if the game gets a touch surreal ...
(08:13:48 PM) Auricle: More than usual?
(08:14:07 PM) dkap: Good point.
(08:14:22 PM) dkap: Well ... it's the Flying Karamotzov brothers version.
(08:17:42 PM) Auricle: Yay
(08:18:56 PM) Auricle: *does the happy boxes dance*
(08:22:06 PM) dkap: So ... right ... I believe the exit line was ... "Where's Chef D."
(08:22:25 PM) Cagliostro: plausible
(08:23:44 PM) Auricle: Yes.
(08:25:38 PM) Cagliostro: gm: do I see Chef D anywhere?
(08:25:45 PM) Cagliostro is now known as Jean
(08:25:50 PM) Jean: I am, after all, legion.
(08:26:00 PM) Auricle: (Dammit, why didn't my logs log?)
(08:27:28 PM) dkap: https://www.train-wreck.org/~dkap/Amber/logs/20081118-dkap_amber.html
(08:28:54 PM) Auricle: (Okay, I is caught up)
(08:29:30 PM) ***Auricle looks around realizing there should be far more people following her than there are. Pip, D, that guy whose name no one remembers that she sent a Jager after.
(08:30:21 PM) dkap: But Jean is, still, faithfully by your side.
(08:30:37 PM) Auricle: Yay Jean.
(08:31:19 PM) Jean: Resistance is silly.
(08:31:37 PM) Auricle: Although Auricle suspects that's less a matter of...following and more a matter of ....enlightened inertia. It is simply easier to have a Jean with Auricle, than not to have a Jean with Auricle, and once there is a Jean with Auricle, there is no reason to leave.
(08:31:57 PM) dkap: Let me refresh, you have a mostly reassembled, vivisected Jager on the table near you.
(08:32:02 PM) Auricle: "Jean, there are supposed to be more people here, aren't there?"
(08:32:06 PM) dkap: You are in some sort of hospital facility.
(08:32:25 PM) Jean: "That's kind of an existential question."
(08:33:37 PM) Auricle: (AHA! OLIM is the name of the guy who wanted to follow me and I sent a Jager after.)
(08:33:54 PM) Jean: (I think you're right)
(08:34:13 PM) Auricle: "Well, I meant...where's D? And the Horse? And Pip? And Olim, and the JAger I sent after Olim? Why do I keep losing people?"
(08:34:34 PM) Jean: gm: I will try to track down the people that Auricle requests.
(08:34:38 PM) Jean: It is, after all, what I do.
(08:36:13 PM) dkap: Indeed. Pip is standing on the side of the road, where the parade passed and the two of you got sucked into it, dejectedly, looking lost.
(08:36:20 PM) dkap: Still with his cart.
(08:36:27 PM) Jean: pip: check
(08:36:33 PM) Jean: Is Chef D still out front?
(08:36:36 PM) dkap: With all the stuff on it that was, plus a bit of Chef D's stuff.
(08:36:44 PM) dkap: Chef D is nowhere in sight.
(08:36:50 PM) dkap: Olim is nowhere in sight.
(08:36:57 PM) Jean: is the Horse with Auricle and I?
(08:37:27 PM) dkap: There is a huge argument going on inside one of the cafe's but it hasn't come to blows, and it hasn't spilled out into the street yet.
(08:37:36 PM) dkap: Horse is still outside the lab.
(08:37:41 PM) ***Auricle starts pulling up all the rejected designs she ever had for the Amberite tracking system.
(08:37:48 PM) Jean: is there a Jean near Horse outside the lab?
(08:38:04 PM) dkap: I'm presuming you are doing a saucer over everything to find things.
(08:38:10 PM) ***Auricle muttering "There has to be an easier way to track where people are than if Jean happens to be near them."
(08:38:22 PM) Jean: that sounds like something I'd do
(08:38:38 PM) Jean: a fight is generally a good place to look for Amberites. I'll check the bar.
(08:39:00 PM) Jean: "I see Horse outside the lab, Pip on the road where the parade went by, and I don't see D or Olim."
(08:39:03 PM) dkap: It's a cafe, not a bar, but sure. (An important difference to a child of Fiona.)
(08:39:50 PM) dkap: As you make your way into the cafe, Olim is sitting there, insisting that they deliver alcohol to him, and they are insisting that they don't serve alcohol here.
(08:40:14 PM) dkap: He's saying that the last three places he was in, they managed to find alcohol, why can't this one.
(08:40:32 PM) dkap: And he's saying it over and over again, as if he's fixated on it, or perhaps, drunk.
(08:40:42 PM) Jean: gm: to Ilk in the tree, make a request.
(08:40:43 PM) Auricle: "You need a better reconnaisance system, Jean."
(08:40:47 PM) Jean: "Hello, Olim."
(08:40:51 PM) ***Auricle looks at Jean consideringly.
(08:40:54 PM) ***Jean is mildly offended.
(08:41:07 PM) Jean: "I found Olim. He's in a cafe, looking for alcohol."
(08:41:21 PM) dkap: The waitresses that are in the cafe are staying out of his reach, and one has a lovely black eye, you can see the knuckle marks, Corwin would be proud.
(08:41:41 PM) Auricle: "Oh, good. Well, maybe good. Where's the Jager that was fetching him? And where's the cafe?"
(08:41:49 PM) dkap: Olim: "You! You know where to get a drink?"
(08:42:04 PM) Jean: gm: any sign of Jagers near Olim?
(08:42:11 PM) dkap: There are no Jager in the cafe.
(08:42:18 PM) Jean: "Ask, and ye shall receive."
(08:42:27 PM) Jean: gm: I am asking Ilk in the tree to procure a drink for Olim
(08:42:33 PM) dkap: Neither the one sent to fetch, nor the one sent after the one sent to fetch.
(08:43:15 PM) dkap: Ilk offers a convenient fish some wixerbrau in a sealed plastic bag, that can fit in said fish.
(08:43:27 PM) Jean: "I don't see the Jager sent to fetch Olim, nor the Jager sent to fetch the first Jager. But Olim seems surly drunk."
(08:43:35 PM) Jean: Ilk can in fact Logrus push booze through Ilk
(08:43:38 PM) Jean: and, I think, probably would.
(08:43:44 PM) Jean: so that it would arrive in its proper container
(08:44:01 PM) Jean: really, the image of Dworkin on the bottle is worth it.
(08:44:07 PM) dkap: He could, but ... he doesn't want to be near Olim at the moment ... which he neglected to tell you.
(08:44:10 PM) Auricle: "Lovely. Drunk. And surly. Did he do something to my Jager?"
(08:44:12 PM) Jean: (And years from now, we'll find out that's a trump that only works when you're drunk."
(08:44:23 PM) Jean: "Given that he's an Amberite... probably?"
(08:44:31 PM) dkap: I figure it's a trump that only works when Dworkin is drunk.
(08:44:33 PM) Jean: Tractor the baggie to Olim.
(08:44:41 PM) Jean: (There's that, too)
(08:44:55 PM) Auricle: "Actually, given he's an Amberite, they'd listen to him unless he tried to supersede my orders. Where is he? Besides a cafe?"
(08:44:59 PM) Jean: "Hm. That does look a little underwhelming. But give it a try."
(08:45:05 PM) Jean: gm: do I have any idea where the cafe is?
(08:45:21 PM) dkap: Olim fails on his ability to figure out how to open the bag, and thinks it's magic.
(08:45:41 PM) dkap: The cafe is not far from the reflecting pool.
(08:45:46 PM) Jean: tractor open said ziploc, and pour it into an appropriate empty glass.
(08:46:00 PM) Jean: gm: is olim drunk, or just not ziploc savvy?
(08:46:06 PM) dkap: Olim is sucking on the outside of the bag, thinking it's just strong surface tension.
(08:46:15 PM) Jean: to auricle: "He's in Amber City, not fare from the reflecting pool."
(08:46:23 PM) Auricle: Oh, good.
(08:46:26 PM) Jean: gm: politely ignore that and get the bag open an in a glass.
(08:46:26 PM) Auricle: "Oh, good."
(08:46:34 PM) dkap: Oh, it's not a ziplock, it's just a solid piece of plastic. No obvious openings ...
(08:46:34 PM) Jean: "I'm not sure I agree with that sentiment."
(08:46:46 PM) Auricle: "Well. At least he's close."
(08:47:02 PM) dkap: You decant the bag into a glass.
(08:47:07 PM) Auricle: "Let me finish revivifying the Jager. And we'll collect some of our wayward....strays.
(08:47:18 PM) dkap: Olim decants the glass into Olim.
(08:47:28 PM) ***Auricle turns back and finishes putting the Jager on the table together.
(08:47:36 PM) dkap: Olim then passes out on the table, from the strength of the wixerbrau.
(08:47:53 PM) Jean: gm: Am I near Zorg?
(08:48:14 PM) dkap: Zorg is still doing the parade thing, so, you can be in mere moments.
(08:48:35 PM) Jean: I will do so.
(08:49:04 PM) dkap: Mr Zorg: "Jean! Did something go wrong with your experiment?"
(08:49:06 PM) Jean: to zorg: "Two things: Do you have a good place to stash passed out Amberites?, and Olim has discovered Wixerbrau."
(08:49:20 PM) Jean: "Maybe, but not explosively yet."
(08:51:04 PM) dkap: Mr Zorg: Well ... I have a somewhat comfortable room off of one of the training facilities, that usually distracts them for a while, so they stay put. Usually a member of the Family Amber can't resist trying to see if there is anything new to learn in a martial sense, and prove that they are, as always, better at it, even the new thing, than anyone else there ...
(08:51:35 PM) dkap: Mr. Zorg: As to the discovery of Wixerbrau, is that a good thing, or a bad thing?
(08:52:58 PM) Jean: "I suppose we'll find out when he wakes up."
(08:53:30 PM) Jean: "Do you want to handle the Olim transfer to your comfy room? He's at <describe cafe in a Jeanish fashion>"
(08:55:44 PM) dkap: Mr Zorg: I'm not sure I know it, but I can have a few soldiers look for it.
(08:56:02 PM) Jean: "Thanks. I'll keep an eye on him till then."
(08:56:09 PM) dkap: Mr. Zorg: Is it possible that you could give me a drawing of the front of the cafe?
(08:56:19 PM) Jean: "Hm."
(08:56:36 PM) Jean: gm: can I spin and provide a light show on the side of the saucer such that the light describes the cafe front?
(08:57:01 PM) dkap: Sure, or you could pull off an ilk-style view-screen, if you wish.
(08:57:20 PM) Jean: I might as well do it Jean-fashion.
(08:57:24 PM) Jean: so I shall.
(08:58:15 PM) dkap: Mr Zorg grabs one of his soldiers, has him look, and then instructs him to find Olim, and take Olim to work-out-crash-space eleven.
(08:59:15 PM) dkap: Chef D is still missing, but Pip, the cart, and Horse all seem to be static in terms of their locations.
(08:59:47 PM) Jean: report the continued lack of Chefness to Auricle
(09:00:06 PM) Jean: "But Zorg has a good place for Olim to have a lie-down."
(09:00:14 PM) Auricle: GM: have I got the Jager working again?
(09:00:23 PM) Jean: gm: follow the soldiers when they reach Olim, and see if there is anyone else in 11.
(09:04:25 PM) dkap: There is a bunch of soldiers in the training room outside of 11 (which is a nice, little room, bed, washstand, chamberpot, a dresser with a few empty drawers, and an uncluttered top) who seem to be working out.
(09:05:23 PM) Jean: okay. but no other amberites either sleeping or flexing.
(09:05:29 PM) dkap: There are a few other rooms off of the training area, one labeled "blue spot" another labeled "blue spot" and three obvious barracks rooms.
(09:05:31 PM) Jean: I'll stick around to monitor Olim.
(09:06:20 PM) dkap: The other two rooms seem comparable to the room, presumably labeled "blue spot" but might be 11, because that's the room Olim was put down in.
(09:07:18 PM) Jean: All right. I'll check the other rooms.
(09:07:24 PM) Jean: all subtle-like.
(09:07:31 PM) dkap: The soldiers who carried him (it took 4, two to carry, one to clear the way, and one to stand guard, just in case there was trouble). lay him down in bed, loosen his boots, but don't remove them, and put a carafe of water with a drinking glass on the top of the dresser.
(09:07:50 PM) Auricle left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
(09:07:58 PM) dkap: One has a wardrobe, instead of a dresser, and the other has shelves. That seems to be just about the only differenece.
(09:08:43 PM) Jean: all right.
(09:08:45 PM) Jean: I'll loiter.
(09:08:55 PM) Jean: but mostly wait for Auricle to finish with the Jager.
(09:08:59 PM) Jean: and/or log back in.
(09:12:21 PM) Jean: so I've recently discovered Fudge on the Fly
(09:12:34 PM) Jean: which is a way of creating characters "in process" for Fudge games
(09:12:48 PM) Jean: you basically come up with a blurb, a talent,a gift, and a flaw and you start playing
(09:12:54 PM) Jean: and as the game progresses, you define your skills
(09:13:09 PM) Jean: (wtih, if I can ever remember, some comment about your character's back story and how this relates to your character)
(09:13:19 PM) Jean: I used it for a call of cthulhu pickup game and it was pretty cool.
(09:13:35 PM) dkap: Sounds ... very useful.
(09:15:20 PM) Jean: it was nice to skip the character creation part.
(09:15:29 PM) Jean: it worked OK for the Fudgy D&D game I ran last night
(09:15:43 PM) Jean: (full game was out because of Cat's voice, but I did some tinkering with one of the players)
(09:15:51 PM) dkap: D&D tends to be less loose than many ...
(09:15:59 PM) Jean: right
(09:16:02 PM) Jean: I want to reloose it
(09:16:10 PM) Jean: so that you don't have to break character to have combats
(09:16:15 PM) dkap: She's still not able to be heard yet? My condolences.
(09:16:17 PM) Jean: and so that combat doesn't take all fricking night
(09:16:20 PM) Jean: she's better today
(09:16:51 PM) dkap: Good good.
(09:17:15 PM) Jean: over the weekend I got kind of a weird star trek fixation
(09:17:20 PM) Jean: so I started thinking about that.
(09:17:39 PM) Jean: the tricky part are the stats - how fudge on the fly works is that you have four stats that you have to rank in order of priority
(09:17:59 PM) dkap: I used to play "speed chess" in a way when doing D&D combat. Sort of a "Quick, what's your action? Good, next? Nothing? Skip, Next?"
(09:18:40 PM) Jean: *nod*
(09:18:54 PM) dkap: With Star Trek, is shirt colour one of those stats? *grin*
(09:18:58 PM) Jean: that can help speed things up, but it does lead to mistakes and it still breaks character.
(09:19:00 PM) Jean: hm. ;)
(09:19:09 PM) Jean: the trick with fudge is that it isn't a stat+skill game
(09:19:23 PM) Jean: so you can have charisma and also social skills, but why would you?
(09:19:56 PM) Jean: so with Cthulhu, the stats were Athletics, Resolve, General Knowledge, and Power
(09:20:10 PM) Jean: where Power is a mana stat that also determines your starting sanity
(09:20:23 PM) dkap: Because sometimes, the worst social skills are overcome by being very comely, and warm, and sometimes, no matter how good your skills, having a physical thing that distracts or detracts can ruin your whole day.
(09:20:23 PM) Jean: and for D&D, it was strength, fortitude, reflex, and will
(09:20:43 PM) Jean: but I see that as a gift (comely) or a flaw (distracting hump)
(09:20:55 PM) Jean: no reason to make that a separate stat for all the people that -isn't- true for
(09:21:17 PM) Jean: or you could buy up diplomacy and say "My character isn't that attractive but they're personally magnetic", or whatnot.
(09:21:21 PM) dkap: Oh, I thought you were looking for a reason to separate them. Not the opposite.
(09:21:25 PM) Jean: nope
(09:21:32 PM) dkap: Sorry.
(09:21:35 PM) Jean: I'mnot quite willing to give up stats
(09:21:48 PM) Jean: but I want to separate them from skills, so there's no (or little) overlap
(09:21:59 PM) Jean: the fewer things on the character sheet, the better.
(09:22:42 PM) Auricle [~chatzilla@pool-72-79-212-88.spfdma.east.verizon.net] entered the room.
(09:22:43 PM) dkap: That does lead to cleaner play, and stronger Role Play.
(09:22:49 PM) Jean: the trick is, whatare the four star trek stats? The ideas I had were Rank, Athletics, and Will/Power, but I can't decide on the fourth one.
(09:22:50 PM) Jean: yep.
(09:22:50 PM) Auricle: *sigh*
(09:22:57 PM) Jean: welcome back, Auricle
(09:22:58 PM) dkap: And the Prodigal is returned.
(09:23:12 PM) Auricle: Chatzilla went totally blank on me and wouldn't do ANYTHING.
(09:23:16 PM) Jean: One thing that I like in newer fantasy games is the abstraction of loot.
(09:23:19 PM) dkap: Technophilia?
(09:23:22 PM) Jean: reboot?:)
(09:23:34 PM) Auricle: Last I saw, Jean investigating barracks
(09:24:15 PM) Jean: jean investigated the barracks; no one else there.
(09:24:45 PM) ***Jean is waiting for Auricle to finish.
(09:25:36 PM) dkap: So, your Jager is back together, but the spark of life seems to have left him.
(09:25:44 PM) dkap: You might need some power leads.
(09:26:33 PM) Auricle left the room (quit: Ping timeout).
(09:28:04 PM) dkap: Apparently she found the power leads ... just not where she was expecting them?
(09:28:43 PM) Auricle [~chatzilla@pool-72-79-212-88.spfdma.east.verizon.net] entered the room.
(09:29:11 PM) Auricle: power leads....check...
(09:29:33 PM) Auricle: er....do I have any? Didn't I just jolt the Jager with Pattern last time I had to revivify one?
(09:31:04 PM) dkap: No, with electricity, the pattern jolt didn't do much.
(09:31:30 PM) dkap: And you had to reset the breaker in it's head. Which, of course, you did this time, because Gargoyle reminded you, while you had him open.
(09:31:48 PM) Auricle: Okay, what's around for electricity?
(09:32:45 PM) dkap: You are in a hospital. You could find a cord, or just canbalize the light-fixture you were using to illuminate things ...
(09:33:05 PM) dkap: Or ... well stick your head out the door and shout for someone to get you some electricity, stat.
(09:34:10 PM) Auricle: Cannabalize the light fixture, that'd be fun.
(09:36:36 PM) dkap: ZOT! It IS ALIVE! And somewhat hungry. Apparently vivisectioning causes appetite buildiup.
(09:36:57 PM) Auricle: "Oh. Food. Ummm."
(09:37:09 PM) Auricle: "Which reminds me, you didn't find Chef D?"
(09:39:21 PM) Jean: "Nope, no sign of him."
(09:39:34 PM) Jean: "Don't Amberites usually use Trump for this sort of thing?"
(09:41:21 PM) Auricle: "Trump's broken since redraw and walk."
(09:41:31 PM) Auricle: "I've been monitoring, my trumps are still broken."
(09:41:45 PM) Jean: "Well, that might be something for the to-do list."
(09:42:03 PM) Jean: "Just a suggestion; I don't mind if you want to leave it on Old Lord time."
(09:43:52 PM) Auricle: "Dworkin was investigating."
(09:44:09 PM) Auricle: "But I haven't heard back about it since...we were going to meet up....somewhere..."
(09:44:10 PM) Jean: gm: How is Dworkin these days? Is his apprentice near him?
(09:44:38 PM) dkap: Yep, and he's up in the floating city, doing some various experiments, using fish and frogs.
(09:44:48 PM) dkap: You are, of course, providing the fish.
(09:45:08 PM) Jean: gm: check.
(09:45:25 PM) Jean: "Well, he's up in the floating city, but he's either busy or crazy. So I hope busy."
(09:45:32 PM) Jean: "But I'm sure you could talk to him if you needed to."
(09:46:10 PM) dkap: Oh, he's being very systematic, and testing the ability to put the new pattern into things, so far, unfortunately, destructively, but sometimes the results are better than others.
(09:46:19 PM) dkap: And there is lots of blue, everywhere.
(09:46:47 PM) Auricle: "Floating city?"
(09:46:48 PM) dkap: There is a scream from farther in the hospital.
(09:46:55 PM) dkap: Floating temple.
(09:47:04 PM) Auricle: Temple, Okay, much more sense.
(09:47:04 PM) dkap: You know, where the patter is.
(09:47:09 PM) dkap: pattern even.
(09:47:23 PM) Jean: we'll retcon it to "Floating thinger."
(09:47:25 PM) Auricle: I was like -- wait, when did it turn into a City?? But temple, yes, more sense.
(09:47:30 PM) Jean: Which is somehow clearer and less confusing.
(09:47:54 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(09:48:01 PM) Auricle: Scream...quick check, do I have all my Jager?
(09:49:04 PM) dkap: Nope, the hungry one wandered off.
(09:49:20 PM) Auricle: "oops."
(09:49:28 PM) ***Auricle heads off in the direction of the screams.
(09:50:08 PM) ***Jean follows, naturally.
(09:50:09 PM) dkap: There is an operating theater, with the Jager being hit over the head with an instrument tray, his mouth and hands full of whomever was on the table.
(09:50:34 PM) Auricle: "Jager! Stop that!"
(09:50:41 PM) dkap: He's wincing a bit at the tray-blows.
(09:51:22 PM) dkap: the Jager shrugs, reaches up, and grabs the tray on the next descent, and wrenches it, so it, and the nurse fly across the room, and goes back to his eating.
(09:52:03 PM) Auricle: Can I pull him back from eating?
(09:52:09 PM) dkap: Sure.
(09:52:13 PM) Auricle: Do so.
(09:52:39 PM) dkap: He says: "Voops, iz vrong 'it', Ja?"
(09:53:56 PM) Auricle: "Yes! Very bad and wrong."
(09:54:15 PM) Auricle: Is the person on the table even ....salvageable?
(09:54:22 PM) dkap: Not ... really, no.
(09:54:58 PM) Auricle: Damn.
(09:55:03 PM) Auricle: Um...hmmmm.
(09:55:12 PM) Auricle: Is anyone yelling at us?
(09:55:17 PM) dkap: Jager says, while pointing: "Dat schtopped fist. zo vus only meat lufft."
(09:55:59 PM) dkap: No, the nurse was the only one brave enough to stay in the operating theater with the Jager apparently, and she is now unconscious against the wall, possibly concussed, maybe dying.
(09:56:43 PM) Auricle: "The person was already dead?"
(09:57:39 PM) dkap: Jager: "Ja."
(09:58:04 PM) Auricle: "Oh. Well, was it your person? No, it was theirs. You need to ask before you eat people that belong to other people."
(09:58:12 PM) dkap: There are scorch marks on the wall behind the equipment the Jager pointed to.
(09:59:01 PM) Auricle: "JEan? Can you get help for the...nurse?"
(09:59:13 PM) dkap: Jager: "Oh. Umm ... vut abut iffn zere is no ozzer zat ze meat seem to belong?"
(09:59:16 PM) Jean: "Sure."
(09:59:21 PM) ***Jean saucers outside.
(09:59:23 PM) ***Auricle goes investigates the scorch marks.
(09:59:29 PM) Jean: "Hello? I need medical assistance for a nurse?"
(09:59:59 PM) dkap: It looks like a complex bit of machinery just slagged into itself, blowing it's back off. It's not really recognizable what it used to do.
(10:00:28 PM) Auricle: Like, a Jager walked in and the machinery stopped?
(10:00:37 PM) dkap: The first person you see comes running, until they see where you are going, turns white, and says "bring the nurse to me for help."
(10:00:52 PM) Jean: dkap: can I tractor the nurse with one saucer?
(10:00:59 PM) dkap: Auricle - almost exactly like.
(10:01:17 PM) dkap: Sure ... you've tractored much more with one saucer before.
(10:01:19 PM) Auricle: "not good not good not good.."
(10:01:21 PM) Jean: then I do so.
(10:01:55 PM) Auricle: "Jagers...out of the hospital, NOW."
(10:02:02 PM) dkap: The person starts emergency medicine, calls for further help, and bruskly thanks you for probably saving the poor nurse's life.
(10:02:21 PM) ***Auricle starts to go out in case they aren't.
(10:02:25 PM) ***Jean meanders back to Auricle.
(10:02:35 PM) dkap: The Jagers shrug and move out of the hospital.
(10:02:48 PM) dkap: The one looks longingly at the rest of the body, and then goes.
(10:03:01 PM) Auricle: "Jean, I need a hospital administrator, I need to know where they are getting their equipment, and if I go back in, the Jager will follow."
(10:03:12 PM) dkap: Jean wanders in just about then, being passed by the Jager on the way out.
(10:03:17 PM) Auricle: "Could you find one?"
(10:03:42 PM) Auricle: (and Auricle, who is also leaving)
(10:04:46 PM) dkap: Right, on your way out, you notice that the Jager have taken up subtle defensive positions around the door you are most likely to come out, and less subtle ones around the other doors, because if you are coming out of those, you might need backup, quickly.
(10:05:05 PM) dkap: Or, rather, the Gargoyle notices, and brings it to your attention.
(10:05:54 PM) ***Jean re-enters the hospital.
(10:06:09 PM) Jean: the saucer says: "Hello; take me to your administrator."
(10:06:57 PM) ***Auricle smiles at the Jager.
(10:07:36 PM) dkap: The nearest nurse looks at the saucer funny, and says that he is not allowed to leave his post at the moment, but if you go down this corridor, and turn left, and go to the end of that corridor, the administrator's office is the door on the right.
(10:08:01 PM) Jean: gm: follow the directions
(10:08:33 PM) dkap: Door with a blue dot across whatever is written on it, in front of you.
(10:09:06 PM) Jean: knock with tractor
(10:09:25 PM) dkap: Voice: "Come in."
(10:09:47 PM) ***Jean enters the room.
(10:10:05 PM) Jean: gm: elsewhere, another saucer settles down next to Auricle.
(10:10:05 PM) dkap: Desk, piles of papers, lots of blue, everywhere.
(10:10:16 PM) Jean: is there a person amidst the blue?
(10:10:27 PM) dkap: Possibly, but it's hard to tell.
(10:10:35 PM) ***Jean will presume there is.
(10:10:36 PM) ***Auricle is muttering under her breath about Jager and machinery.
(10:10:49 PM) dkap: I mean, there is blue _everywhere_ as if there is writing on the floor, walls, chairs, clothing ... etc.
(10:11:14 PM) Jean: "Hello; I bring a request from Auricle the <appropriate adjective>. She requests information on your medical equipment suppliers."
(10:11:21 PM) Jean: gm: like, suspicious amount of blue?
(10:11:33 PM) Jean: gm: can Ilk check for Bibliomancy where I am?
(10:11:38 PM) dkap: What counts as a suspicious amount of blue?
(10:12:01 PM) dkap: Not non-destructively.
(10:12:37 PM) Jean: A solid room of blue.
(10:12:42 PM) Jean: like, I open the door, and it's blue.
(10:13:05 PM) Jean: not just little bits of blue scattered around, or even large blurbs of blue. The floor, the desk, the wall, check. but not windows or the ceiling.
(10:14:14 PM) Jean: that would be suspicious.
(10:14:22 PM) dkap: Actually there is some on the ceiling, as well, the desk is, apparently, the only thing not blue-coated, just the papers etc on the desk.
(10:15:32 PM) dkap: Ilk throws a tendril or two in, then pulls them back out, and assures you it is just a strange type of view-screen, being projected from the device on her desk. There is even words on you at the moment.
(10:15:33 PM) Jean: hm.
(10:15:42 PM) Jean: ah.
(10:15:44 PM) ***Jean is reassured.
(10:15:51 PM) ***Jean makes a note never to tell Caelin about this.
(10:16:00 PM) Jean: gm: any response?
(10:17:31 PM) dkap: I missed it ... oh ... she pointed to some of the papers on her desk.
(10:17:57 PM) dkap: Jean should add to the note to especially never tell the archivist.
(10:18:25 PM) ***Auricle muttering, "I mean, there has to be some commanality...it can't just be completely....is it their hats? An aura? Something magical I didn't expect? Why would I even put in magic? HOW could I? There's nothing obvious, no energy patterns..."
(10:19:03 PM) Jean: the archivist is only sort of caelin. I -might- tell him. if it was important.
(10:19:19 PM) dkap: *grin*
(10:19:26 PM) Jean: gm: if I can't see her, I missed the pointing. The saucer will wait patiently.
(10:20:56 PM) dkap: Right ... the voice is muttering something almost, but not quite audible, but pitched as if it was a lecture.
(10:21:01 PM) dkap: Just a really soft one.
(10:22:00 PM) Jean: can I get closer or increase the gain?
(10:22:29 PM) Auricle: "Obviously there's a proximity....which must, at least, be measurable. Aha."
(10:22:35 PM) dkap: There seems to be a dampening field around her.
(10:22:57 PM) dkap: Gargoyle puts up numbers that show that proximity, and even exposure time are not deterministic.
(10:23:07 PM) dkap: At least as far as his partial data can show.
(10:23:14 PM) ***Jean rolls in frustration.
(10:23:23 PM) Jean: to Auricle: The administrator is, I think ignoring me.
(10:23:32 PM) Jean: but there's too much writing for me to be sure.
(10:23:45 PM) ***Auricle looks like a great idea failed.
(10:24:02 PM) Auricle: "Ummm...there's too much writing?"
(10:24:23 PM) dkap: Voice: "What are you doing? I'm trying to tape my lecture notes."
(10:25:23 PM) Jean: auricle: hang on.
(10:25:37 PM) Jean: "I am trying to talk to you. It's important. Where do you get your medical supplies?"
(10:25:39 PM) Auricle: Gargoyle: Do we have other reports of equipment failure, and only from Jager proximity?"
(10:27:14 PM) Jean: gm: s/supplies/equipment/
(10:27:57 PM) dkap: Voice: "Various places, I pointed to the recent order forms, on my desk, now, take a copy and go, I have to get this lecture done in the next 20 minutes."
(10:28:19 PM) dkap: Gargoyle: No data on file. Such has not been collected, or presented to me as to yet.
(10:28:54 PM) Auricle: Gargoyle: You need a better network...oh! Have there been updates from the religion?
(10:29:26 PM) Jean: "Please hand me the forms or I will have to disable your display device. It prevents me from seeing which form you are indicating."
(10:30:19 PM) dkap: Voice in a frustrated tone: "Here, now go!" There is some blue waving before you.
(10:30:34 PM) Jean: tractor the blue, thank her politely, then return to Auricle.
(10:30:44 PM) Jean: to Auricle: "I believe the answers are on this paper?"
(10:31:04 PM) ***Auricle takes the paper and looks it over.
(10:31:12 PM) Auricle: GM: What am I looking at?
(10:32:16 PM) dkap: Order invoices, badly put together, unpaid bills, overpaid bills, and a general beaurocratic mess.
(10:32:23 PM) dkap: You are right at home.
(10:32:25 PM) dkap: *grin*
(10:34:36 PM) ***Auricle start organizing and figuring out what and where the equipment is being ordered from.
(10:35:53 PM) dkap: Various shadow organizations, apparently. Their delivery routes are noted as "having been cut off in the recent upheaval."
(10:36:12 PM) dkap: Although there are still some supplies trickling in, most of things that can be made locally.
(10:36:26 PM) Auricle: "Hmmm."
(10:36:36 PM) ***Auricle starts heading back towards her lab.
(10:37:24 PM) dkap: Most of the Jager disperse, and your central cadre follow you.
(10:37:34 PM) dkap: Gargoyle reminds you of Pip.
(10:37:59 PM) Auricle: "Oh, Pip! Path to Pip? Oh, wait, we don't know where he is. Jean? Pip?"
(10:38:27 PM) Jean: "Pip is at the road where we joined the parade."
(10:38:47 PM) Jean: gm: if I know which direciton Pip is in from where Auricle is, I'll indicate it.
(10:38:51 PM) Jean: but it's direction, and it's me.
(10:39:56 PM) dkap: Gargoyle knows the path, of course.
(10:40:15 PM) dkap: Gargoyle knows where you are, where the lab is, and what path you took from the lab to where you abandoned Pip.
(10:40:23 PM) dkap: Knowing that Pip is still at that location makes it easy.
(10:40:40 PM) Auricle: Okay then. "Gargoyle, Path to Pip?"
(10:42:48 PM) dkap: Path is already on your droptacs.
(10:43:48 PM) Auricle: follows the path
(10:45:32 PM) dkap: There, in front of you, facing in the other direction, is Pip, sitting on the sidewalk, his back against the cart, with a flag in his hand, patiently awaiting your return.
(10:47:13 PM) Auricle: "Yay! There you are!"
(10:48:00 PM) dkap: Pip looks up, moves to the front of the cart, and says: "Which way, Sir?"
(10:48:46 PM) Auricle: "I didn't mean to get lost on you." looks around. "Um...not entirely sure which way...we're still missing D."
(10:49:45 PM) dkap: The path to your lab is still on your droptacs.
(10:50:09 PM) dkap: Pip: You needed to move faster than I could. I knew, unlike others, you would return for me.
(10:51:20 PM) ***Auricle grins.
(10:51:42 PM) Auricle: "Okay. Let's see....if I were Chef D, where would I go?"
(10:51:57 PM) Auricle: (probably started shapeshifting with that comment)
(10:52:06 PM) Jean: "Where did you find him originally?"
(10:52:26 PM) Auricle: "The Jagers did. Hey, where did you guys find Chef D?"
(10:52:42 PM) dkap: Jagers: At the bakery, just before it exploded.
(10:53:05 PM) Auricle: "Where is it? Or, was it?"
(10:54:04 PM) dkap: Map appears before your eyes.
(10:54:44 PM) Auricle: Path and everything?
(10:55:00 PM) dkap: To where the bakery used to be? Yes.
(10:55:07 PM) dkap: Gargoyle has it, it was in this city.
(10:55:09 PM) ***Auricle loves her Gargoyle.
(10:55:15 PM) Auricle: *love love*
(10:55:31 PM) ***Auricle heads off towards where the Bakery was.
(10:59:12 PM) dkap: There is still a smoking crater where it was.
(10:59:20 PM) dkap: And no sign of Chef D.
(10:59:47 PM) Auricle: "Wow. This is impressive. What caused it?"
(11:01:05 PM) dkap: (Gargoyle reminds you that you had a hand in it ... and so did Chef D.)
(11:01:16 PM) dkap: (It was part of why you took to him so quickly.)
(11:02:53 PM) Auricle: "Oh, right. Okay, so....I know he's HERE, somewhere....
(11:03:10 PM) Auricle: Oh heck, Pattern lens the city, where's D?
(11:04:41 PM) dkap: A bright pattern lens flairs up before you. The power swirls around you. And then, suddenly there is a pop, and it grounds into the reflecting pool, which stops reflecting, and instead, shows a picture of an unconscious Chef D, stripped naked (not a pretty sight) chained to an otherwise blank wall.
(11:05:23 PM) Auricle: "That's...not good."
(11:05:57 PM) dkap: One of the Jager jumps into the reflecting pool ... and ends up next to Chef D.
(11:06:10 PM) Auricle: "And that's....weirder."
(11:06:11 PM) Jean: "Interesting."
(11:06:15 PM) ***Jean follows the Jager.
(11:06:20 PM) dkap: Chef D obviously is communicating with the Jager ...
(11:06:23 PM) Jean: while one saucer remains behind.
(11:06:43 PM) dkap: A saucer goes into the reflecting pool, and "pop" is on the other side.
(11:06:53 PM) Auricle: "Jean...can the Jager get him loose?"
(11:07:07 PM) dkap: The Jager has gotten a butter knife from Chef D's stuff, and is busy prying at the shakels.
(11:07:22 PM) dkap: shackles even.
(11:08:01 PM) dkap: The knife scrapes and doesn't seem to take damage, but also doesn't seem to be able to make damage.
(11:08:10 PM) dkap: Jean, you have popped from Saucer to Primal Jean.
(11:08:34 PM) Jean: gm: Many Jeans say: "Whoa. That's not good."
(11:08:45 PM) Jean: to auricle: "Don't expect Shapeshifting to work, and it's probably a real place."
(11:08:50 PM) Jean: Oh, and run a flag up to Ilk.
(11:09:02 PM) Jean: to Chef D: "Hi, Chef D. So, you found the trap?"
(11:09:18 PM) Auricle: "Right."
(11:09:48 PM) Auricle: "Can you see anything else about where he is, since you are there?"
(11:09:49 PM) Jean: fyi for auricle: Primal Jean is not issued with clothes.
(11:10:03 PM) Auricle: (lotta nakedness in that room)
(11:10:04 PM) ***Jean will look around for Auricle.
(11:10:57 PM) dkap: Ilk replies that, due to pattern saturation, he _really_ doesn't want to be there right now.
(11:11:04 PM) dkap: And tells you that it's Corwin Pattern.
(11:11:12 PM) Jean: Hm.
(11:11:32 PM) ***Jean checks - is the Head still where it should be?
(11:11:42 PM) dkap: There is some of Chef D's stuff tossed across the room from him (where the Jager got the butter knife from)
(11:11:50 PM) Jean: to Auricle: "The room is saturated with Corwin pattern."
(11:11:57 PM) dkap: But no door, no windows.
(11:12:30 PM) Auricle: "Corwin's Pattern?" frowns "What did I do to upset Corwin's pattern? We keep running into it. I've never even met it!"
(11:12:39 PM) dkap: And a large blood-smear, that has gotten on some of Chef D's stuff, as well, and it's not from Chef D. (at least, not obviously from him)
(11:12:47 PM) dkap: Yes the head is where it belongs.
(11:13:13 PM) Jean: "It might be related to the Head."
(11:13:32 PM) Jean: "In my experience, it's not the Pattern, it's the Pattern users."
(11:13:39 PM) Auricle: "we ran into Corwin-Pattern with the place of the Arrows."
(11:13:45 PM) Jean: gm: is Chef D conscious?
(11:13:52 PM) dkap: Chef D: Yes, I was following up on something that head had said, when I ended up here."
(11:13:59 PM) Auricle: "Corwin-descendants with the Horse and the Head."
(11:14:05 PM) dkap: (Umm ... yes. *grin*)
(11:14:13 PM) Auricle: "Corwin-Pattern in that room..."
(11:14:32 PM) Jean: to chef D: "What had the head said?"
(11:14:45 PM) Auricle: "I can't...Gargoyle? Other than the HEad, when's the last time I even SPOKE to a Corwin-Pattern person?"
(11:14:53 PM) Jean: "Sounds to me like someone's pulled an Oberon raising his descendants."
(11:15:32 PM) Auricle: "Sounds to me like if this keeps up we're going to have a Pattern war."
(11:17:03 PM) Jean: "Well,it sounds like it's their turn."
(11:17:23 PM) Auricle: "Yeah, excepting their pattern is picking the fight with me."
(11:17:36 PM) Jean: "Hm. Hmm......."
(11:17:39 PM) ***Jean looks thoughtful.
(11:18:46 PM) Auricle: "Pattern redraw...all the balances were upset for a while. We're still settling in some places."
(11:20:02 PM) Jean: "Hopefully we won't end up with more rifts this time."
(11:20:48 PM) Auricle: "Deirdre has no problems with me, and she's certainly Corwin-Pattern aligned. So it's not necessarily the individuals associated with that Pattern...However....It's possible maybe some of the initial wavefront washed up against Pearl and their Pattern misunderstood or took it for an attack or...? Or some of their people did?"
(11:21:24 PM) Jean: "Wasn't Deirdre fighting as Corwin's balance when we recruited her?'
(11:21:42 PM) Auricle: "I can't imagine why, everyone knows what happened and why....Um...Gargoyle? Was she?"
(11:22:28 PM) Auricle: "Perhaps it's simpler? Corwin's children simply think their Pattern should be dominant?"
(11:23:01 PM) dkap: Yes, she was.
(11:23:23 PM) Auricle: "Or something stranger....like I'm gaining an affinity for alternate Patterns as well as my own? I've been able to affect alternate Amber Patterns, and alternate Tir's....Yes, she was."
(11:23:52 PM) Jean: "Or they're such idiots that Corwin's descendants don't realize that it was Deirdre, and they're following their enemy to her new base of operations."
(11:24:02 PM) Jean: "-or- they've been subverted by the G-person."
(11:24:12 PM) Auricle: "All of which are possible."
(11:24:18 PM) Auricle: "Not enough data."
(11:24:30 PM) Jean: "_or_ perhaps it's an intentional coup, or a power play, or maybe they're just Amberites and are trying to conquer every new place they encounter."
(11:24:43 PM) Jean: gm: any exits in the Chef D room?
(11:24:45 PM) Auricle: "Not enough data."
(11:25:55 PM) dkap: No exits.
(11:26:22 PM) Jean: hm.
(11:26:33 PM) Jean: did chef d ever respond to the question of what the head said?
(11:26:40 PM) Auricle: "Working Theory: Corwin's descendents are still Amberites, therefore, Primal Pattern is still important. Only thing I've done so far is restrict access to Primal. Reflected Pattern hasn't appeared yet, but will be, similar to Amber's Pattern being the reflection of the Primal. So. As ever, to have Power from Amberite perspective, need to control Primal....."
(11:27:49 PM) Jean: "If that were the case, why did the head attack the decoy city and ignore the pattern in the sky?"
(11:27:55 PM) dkap: Chef D: "Umm ... Jean? The Jager doesn't seem to be getting anywhere, could you take my getting off this wall in hand?"
(11:28:55 PM) Auricle: "Ummm. Point. And it can't be a clever ruse, he's not clever."
(11:30:21 PM) Auricle: "Gyah, I hate Amberite politics."
(11:30:22 PM) dkap: Gargoyle: "Maybe he was trying to take out any military force that would have been at his back, had he tried to storm the unknown place.
(11:30:34 PM) Jean: to chef D: "Sure, but I need to make sure you aren't a trap first. At least fairly sure. So, answer the question, please?"
(11:30:52 PM) dkap: Chef D: "Umm ... sure? What's the question?"
(11:31:05 PM) Auricle: nods at the Gargoyle. "Possible. And he could have been under instructions."
(11:31:11 PM) Jean: "What did the head say that lead you here?"
(11:31:17 PM) dkap: Chef D: "And would you look for some of my exploding Fondant at the same time?"
(11:31:39 PM) ***Jean will look for the Fondant.
(11:32:34 PM) dkap: Chef D: "That he will be avenged by his family, which had me thinking that, therefore, there might be a connection back to his family, so they could know if he succeeded or failed, and so therefore, I could follow it, like sauce on a strand of spaghetti.
(11:32:54 PM) dkap: *sigh* And now the GM is hungry ...
(11:33:08 PM) Jean: this could be a reasonable spot to wrap.
(11:33:16 PM) Jean: with foreshadowing, but before exposition.
(11:33:29 PM) Auricle: Indeed.
(11:34:06 PM) Auricle: I need to sleep, anyways.
(11:34:45 PM) dkap: Indeed. And there is packing to be done.
(11:34:51 PM) Auricle: Exactly
(11:34:57 PM) dkap: We leave it, with Chef D, chained to a wall.
(11:35:12 PM) dkap: The reflecting pool, somehow turned into a gate.
(11:35:36 PM) dkap: And a Jean and a Jager, in a doorless room.
(11:35:52 PM) Auricle: Oh!
(11:35:59 PM) Auricle: I may be internetless for a bit
(11:36:05 PM) Auricle: As am moving on Sunday
(11:36:16 PM) Auricle: And I don't know when husband arranged to have cable installed.
(11:36:30 PM) Auricle: So next week is probably not a game for me.
(11:36:32 PM) Auricle: :(
(11:36:34 PM) dkap: Well ... we will do what we will do.
(11:36:39 PM) dkap: Until soon then.
(11:36:47 PM) Auricle: I will email.
(11:36:51 PM) Auricle: from work
(11:37:06 PM) Auricle: G'night!
(11:37:06 PM) dkap: Indeed.
(11:37:08 PM) Jean: alas, but these things, they do happen
(11:37:10 PM) Jean: good night!
(11:37:13 PM) Jean left the room.
(11:37:15 PM) Auricle left the room (quit: Quit: Chatzilla 0.9.77 [SeaMonkey 1.0.1/2006040400]).
